RESEARCH NOTES
 

Francis Dwyer was born in Micarkey, County Tipperary, Ireland, in 1781 and worked as a labourer before enlisting into the 44th Regiment of Foot at Waterford on 4 November 1805 aged 23. He served for almost fourteen years with the regiment, including the Waterloo campaign, and was discharged at Kilkenny in November 1818. His Waterloo Medal survives today in the Essex Museum collection.
