RESEARCH NOTES
Oliver Halpin, M.D. (Edin. 1802), was appointed Assistant Surgeon, 44th Foot, 25 September, 1803; Surgeon, Royal Corsican Rangers, 11 April, 1811; returned to 44th Foot, 29 April, 1813, and was present at the battle of Waterloo; half pay, 25 March, 1816; retired on half pay, 12 April, 1821, and died at Ostend in June 1838.
Surgeon Oliver’s medal appears on a list of medals returned to the Commander-in-Chief’s Office, 27 June, 1817, the reason given as ‘Half Pay’. It is possible that when he eventually claimed his medal, his original maybe having been consigned to the melting pot, another medal was re-impressed for issue to him.
