RESEARCH NOTES
Private John Jenkinson was born in Preston, Lancashire, and enlisted into the 44th Regiment of Foot at Preston on 11 June 1803 aged eighteen. He served almost fifteen years with the regiment, including the Waterloo campaign of 1815, before being discharged at Chatham in May 1817 suffering from chronic rheumatism and the effects of long service. His conduct was recorded as "Very Good". His Waterloo Medal survives in the collection of the Essex Museum.
