RESEARCH NOTES
 

Henry Jones was born in County Kildare and entered the British Army prior to 1802, serving initially as a Sergeant in the 44th Regiment of Foot. He was appointed Quartermaster of the regiment in July 1802 and later transferred in the same capacity to the 6th Regiment and subsequently the 80th Regiment of Foot. He served throughout the Napoleonic Wars, including the Waterloo campaign of 1815, and retired onto half pay in 1830 with the 12th Royal Veteran Battalion. He died at Gibraltar on 7 February 1835. His Waterloo Medal survives in the collection of the Essex Museum.
